FLORIDA PLACES AND DESTINATIONS - APALACHICOLA

Apalachicola in Florida

Once the third largest port on the Gulf of Mexico, and one of Florida's oldest cities, Apalachicola offers visitors everything from history to romance.

With over 200 historic homes and buildings on the National Register, Apalachicola is full of tree-lined streets with picturesque Victorian houses, and plenty of historic bed and breakfasts where couples can tie the knot.

The Gibson Inn, The Coombs Inn, The Consulate, Witherspoon, House of Tartts, Raney Guest Cottage and The Bryant House all provide true southern character and are a short walk from the shops, restaurants and old time soda fountain downtown. There are also five churches from the 1800s and an outdoor gazebo in Lafayette Park.

Visitors can also spend time browsing through the City's unique galleries, stores and antique shops or touring the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve Center.

For fishing enthusiasts, the Apalachicola River and Bay provide great fishing opportunities, while nature lovers can explore the waterways by kayak, canoe, riverboat or sailboat, or simply relax on on the miles of uncrowded pristine beaches and protected shallow bays.
