FLORIDA PLACES AND DESTINATIONS - BRANDON

From small beginnings as 40 acres of land in the 1850s belonging to John Brandon from Mississippi, Brandon grew to become a prosperous small town - and is still growing.
The spacious, 974,000-square-foot Westfield Shoppingtown is quickly becoming one of the largest malls in Central Florida, and Brandon is also starting to be known as a small jazz hub. One of the most popular dining spots in the entire region Della's After Dark has local jazz groups on the weekends and has launched the careers of several young local jazz players.
Brandon is also home to the Brandon Ballet.
Though growing still, and only a few miles from downtown Tampa and close to all the major attractions of Central Florida, Brandon nevertheless manages to maintain its distinct small town atmosphere. And nothing typifies this more than the the annual Brandon Balloon Classic.
This event, held every April, is a two-day celebration that includes over 50 hot air balloons from all over the country. Balloons lift off at dawn, and visitors and locals alike enjoy activities and refreshments throughout the day.
The town of Brandon also enjoys a moderate Florida climate, with a mild temperature range and an excess of beautiful, sunny days.
