FLORIDA PLACES AND DESTINATIONS - DUCK KEY

Duck Key, Florida

Duck Key is a small islet located at mile marker 61 off the Overseas Highway in the Florida Keys.

The Hawk's Cay Resort and Village is a 60 acre island destination resort surrounded by the Atlantic ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. The resort features an exclusive dolphin interaction program, a full service 110-ship marina glass-bottom boating, snorkeling, diving, fishing excursions and guided kayak tours.

Vehicles cross over the island's canals by way of picturesque arched bridges.

The Florida Keys Shipwreck Heritage Trail is a water-based line of nine notable wreck sites that stretch from Key Largo to Key West and are suitable for snorkeling and diving. Established by the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, the trail was created to encourage an appreciation and understanding of the Florida Keys' maritime heritage.

Over the past five years, these historic wrecks have been joined by additional ships that were intentionally sunk to create artificial reefs - and are home to 55 varieties of delicate coral and nearly 500 species of fish in the sanctuary's federally protected waters.

One of the shipwrecks composing the Florida Keys Shipwreck Trail is the three-masted bark Adelaide Baker south of Duck Key in 20 feet of water. The ship is also called the Conrad.
