FLORIDA PLACES AND DESTINATIONS - HOMESTEAD

Homestead, Florida

The second oldest city in Miami-Dade county, Homestead nestles between Biscayne National Park and Everglades National Park.

Contiguous with Florida City, Downtown Homestead is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Homestead Championship Rodeo in January has all the usual popular rodeo events: steer wrestling, bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding.

Attractions include Coral Castle, a unique fantasy world carved out of stone by a jilted lover, Edward Leedskalnin, over the course of 28 years from 1923 to 1951. The Fruit and Spice Park has more than 500 varieties of exotic fruits, herbs, spices and nuts from throughout the world; Schnebly Redland's Winery produces tropical fruit wines; and The Everglades Alligator Farm is home to about 2,000 alligators. A trip to the alligator farm includes an airboat tour into the surrounding Everglades.
