FLORIDA PLACES AND DESTINATIONS - MOUNT DORA

Mount Dora is a beautiful lakefront town in Central Florida that is famous for antiques, the arts, and more. It is part of Lake County which has more than 1,000 lakes within its 1,200-square-mile border.
The Mount Dora Museum of Speed is the only classic car museum in Central Florida specializing in American-made muscle cars, a car collection which is constantly evolving. Over a dozen cars are on permanent display at the museum while another 14 or so are for sale.
The scenic Dora Canal connects the six-mile-long Lake Dora with other lakes leading to St. John’s River and Jacksonville, and allows passage all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. There are mementos of Mount Dora's early days on display in a restored jailhouse at Royellou Museum; The Donnelly House is an example of Steamboat Gothic architecture; and there are works from regional artists at the Mount Dora Center For The Arts.
Antique shops have found their niche in Lake County, offering hundreds of vendors under one roof at Renningers Antique Center in Mount Dora and collectibles and rare finds at dozens of small, locally owned stores throughout the county. At Renningers there are antiques and collectibles from 150 dealers to 500 dealers every weekend.
