FLORIDA PLACES AND DESTINATIONS - NICEVILLE

Nestled comfortably along the shores of Choctawhatchee Bay in the northwest panhandle of Florida, its name, Niceville, sums up this friendly town.
Located close to Eglin Air Force Base, there is an endless variety of indoor and outdoor recreation activities: the Eglin AFB Golf Course, Rocky Bayou Golf Course, Oak Creek Shopping, the Air Force Armament Museum, Bluewater Bay, Fred Gannon State Park, Fort Walton and nearby beaches. On average, Niceville sees 343 days of sunshine per year.
Niceville was previously named Boggy Bayou, but the name was changed to attract more tourists. The Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival is still held annually
The discovery of a number of projectile points and burial mounds is proof that up to 10,000 years ago Native Americans were living in the area now occupied by the City of Niceville.
