FLORIDA PLACES AND DESTINATIONS - PALATKA

Palatka is one of the towns on The Florida Mural Trail that have painted their histories on the facades of local buildings.
These larger-than-life murals accurately depict the historical, cultural and natural riches of Palatka and Putnam County.
Palatka is also home to St. Johns River Community College and to one of Florida’s most scenic state parks, Ravine Gardens. The ravine was transformed in 1933 into a dramatic garden by the federal Works Progress Administration.
Much of the original landscaping still exists as formal gardens and there are miles of trails. A 1.8-mile paved road for motorists and cyclists winds around the ravine. The garden's peak flowering period is azalea season, late January to April.
Among the sites of interest in Palatka are the Bronson-Mulholland House built for Judge Isaac Bronson in 1854 and now on the US National Register of Historic Places; the Larimer Arts Center; Putnam Historic Museum; David Browning Railroad Museum; Historic Tilghman House where visitors can enjoy the arts and fine craftsmanship of local artists; and the Cross Florida Greenway & Visitor Center, a nature education center.
The Palatka Golf Club is home to several nationally known tournaments.
