FLORIDA PLACES AND DESTINATIONS - PLANT CITY

If you’re enjoying a midwinter strawberry anywhere in the US, the chances are it has come from Plant City, known as the winter strawberry capital of the world.
Famed for its Strawberry Shortcake, Plant City’s two-week Florida Strawberry Festival in late February/early March attracts many strawberry vendors, hundreds of flea market-style craft stalls selling everything from 400- thread count sheets to handmade strawberry-infused gold and silver jewelry, a beauty pageant, and concert performances. The Strawberry Classic Car Show is held the 3rd Saturday of each month.
At Dinosaur World in Plant City you can sift through sand in search of authentic fossils, work on uncovering a life-size dinosaur skeleton just as paleontologists do, see over 150 life-size dinosaurs. The indoor Prehistoric Museum houses displays authentic dinosaur eggs and other dinosaur bones.
Several locations in Plant City, midway between Brandon and Lakeland, are on the National Register of Historic Places: Bing Rooming House, Downtown Plant City Commercial District, Downtown Plant City Historic Residential District, Glover School, Hillsboro State Bank Building, North Plant City Residential District, Plant City High School, Plant City Union Depot, Standard Oil Service Station, and Historic Turkey Creek High School.
