FLORIDA PLACES AND DESTINATIONS:
PORT SAINT LUCIE

The Oxbow Eco-Center in Port St. Lucie offers a rare glimpse of the mysterious and hidden life of the forests and rivers of “old” Florida.

Here, on a 220-acre preserve on the north fork of the St. Lucie River, geologic history and the present time come alive at the Oxbow Eco-Center and the St. Lucie County Environmental Learning Center.

With its beaches and navigable waterways, fishing, surfing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and boating opportunities are plentiful in Port St. Lucie.

Port St. Lucie is home to New York Mets spring training and the St. Lucie Mets Florida State League team. Florida Atlantic University has its Treasure Coast campus in the city.

The Port St. Lucie Historical Society preserves the city’s history. The earliest known occupants of the area were the Ais Indians.  Evidence of their presence at Spruce Bluff is still visible. Historical research dates the "Spruce Bluff Mound" between 100 and 300 BC.

The Professional Golf Association (PGA) also has a home in Port St. Lucie at PGA Village and, together with its three signature courses, has built a state of the art PGA Learning center.
