FLORIDA PLACES AND DESTINATIONS - SUNRISE

Sunrise, Florida

Originally known as Sunrise Golf Village, Sunrise is situated in the heart of South Florida's tourist-friendly region – the tri-county cluster of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach.

Sunrise's BankAtlantic Center – where the National Hockey League's Florida Panthers play their home games – is one of the US's largest arenas, hosting more than 100 major entertainment events annually. The Oasis at Sawgrass Mills has over 300,000 square feet of shopping, entertainment, and dining. The city has its own 65-member professional symphony, the Sunrise Symphonic Pops Orchestra.

The Woodstock Arts & Crafts Festival, featuring handmade crafts, international foods, roving entertainment, and children's rides and games, marks the beginning of the holiday season.

Recreation facilities in Sunrise includes Sawgrass Sanctuary, a 20-acre park and learning center with a hiking/bicycling trail, fishing pier and boardwalk. The Sunrise Tennis Club has 11 Hydrocourt clay courts and four asphalt-based cushioned courts. There are two golf courses, Springtree Golf Club and Sunrise Country Club.

Sunrise is adjoined by the communities of Weston, Davie, Tamarac, Lauderhill and Plantation. Sunrise is adjacent to the Everglades Conservation Area. It is minutes away from Ft. Lauderdale's beaches.
