While Water Taxi has always been a popular attraction for visitors who enjoy a scenic bird's eye view of the spectacular homes, yachts and lush landscaping lining many of the canals (in addition to colorful stories told by the captains), it has also become a preferred means of transportation for residents hoping to avoid traffic and parking delays, while enjoying a tranquil diversion on the water. The sleek, 70-passenger water buses feature both indoor and outdoor seating areas with an atrium-like roof to achieve optimum views - and rays for those hoping to catch some sun. The 42-foot vessels are powered by a bio-diesel, hybrid electric engine for a ride that is smoother for passengers and safer for the environment. Navigating Greater Fort Lauderdale by water is easier and more fun than ever, as riders embark and disembark around the city with the use of full- or multi-day passes. They can even combine transport by water bus with the city's more traditional land bus service if they wish. Water Taxi carries approximately 300,000 people a year, thanks to Greater Fort Lauderdale's prime location on the Intracoastal Waterway along the Atlantic Ocean coast of Florida. |
