Although it has the feel of a small, hometown community, Plantation is blessed with all the amenities of a large city: There are recreation and meeting facilities to indulge every taste and price range, nationally recognized athletics programs, two Olympic-sized swimming pools, an abundance of tennis courts and golf courses, restaurants ranging from the conventional to exotic and an assortment of superior hotel accommodations. Visitors flock to the horse shows and exhibitions at the Plantation Equestrian Center which is set in 85 acres of beautifully landscaped boardwalks, bridle paths and recreational areas. Within Volunteer Park, visitors will enjoy quiet, peaceful nature trails, wetlands designed to support local wildlife, educational playgrounds, and auditory sculptures that react to wind and rain. The Plantation Botanical Gardens is a passive park that provides a variety of flowering trees amidst flowing berms. The Hoffman Plantation Library is to the east of the park. Nestled within the park's trees, the permanent exhibits at The Plantation Historical Society Museum include artifacts from the Seminole and Tequesta tribes. The newest edition to this park is a butterfly garden. This park is also offers a jogging trail with 20 exercise stations. Different cultural backgrounds of the community were incorporated into the design of The Multicultural Park by using plant material indigenous to the home lands of the neighborhood’s residents and artwork created by neighborhood school children and local artist Beth Ravitz. Colorful artwork can be seen on entrance columns and the rear wall. Novice golfers and seasoned pros alike are challenged by the 18-hole Audubon-certified championship Plantation Preserve golf course which includes a linear park trail with two trailheads that wind their way through the golf course and 29 acres of wetland preserve. Plantation Central Park boasts a major selection of recreational interests. as does North Central Park which is centered by a 10 acre lake. There are 26 lighted Har-Tru tennis courts & two lighted hard courts at the Frank Veltri Tennis Center at Plantation Central Park. There are more tennis courts at the Community Center Tennis Center and the Volunteer Park Tennis Courts where visitors can find Camp Everglades, a one-acre play area with an Everglades theme which provides a unique environment and educational opportunity for children. There are major shopping malls: The Broward Mall, The Fashion Mall at Plantation, The Fountains Shoppes of Distinction, and the East Sawgrass Shopping District. |
